Title: | TOGGLE INFANT BUDDHA ON LOTUS |
Inventory#: | VE17111 |
Size: | 3.00" x 0.50" x 0.50" |
Country: | CHINA |
Price: | $1,400 |
A fine boxwood carving of the infant Buddha kneeling upright on a lotus flower with hands clasped in prayer. The Lotus has almost a unique importance in Chinese folklore and symbolism. It grows from muddy water but is itself unsullied and is therefore symbolic of purity. The two words that mean Lotus (Lian and He) are homonyms for the words meaning âto bind, connect to, uninterrupted, to love as well as modesty (Lian)â as well as âunison, in concord or harmony together (He)â consequently the symbolic field covered by the lotus is almost limitless.
