Inventory#: | VE17117 |
Size: | 2.50" x 1.75" x 1.75" |
Country: | CHINA |
Price: | $950 |
A large carving in boxwood of Shou Hsing the God of Longevity seated next to a deer. The deer (Lu) has the exact phonetic equivalence as (Lu) good income or great fortunes. It is seen as a symbol of riches but is also most often associated with Shou Hsing. Spanning the deer and the Immortal is a bat like creature (fu) which also is synonymous with the word for good fortune and happiness (fu). The three figures stand astride an inverted Lotus seed pod with seven articulating seeds. Together these symbols would represent a wish for a long and prosperous life with repeated and continuous good fortune. The surface is well worn.
